Benefits
Good to know about this tool
Checks, based on a few questions, whether your electronic register has been or needs to be reported on time, and estimates your TSE certificate's expiry.
The cash-register reporting duty came with a catch-up deadline (31 July 2025, already passed) and an ongoing 30-day rule for new registers — many businesses don't know the difference.
- Check whether an existing register still needs to be reported
- Determine the deadline for a newly acquired register
- Estimate the TSE expiry date before a gap occurs
- Report exclusively via Mein ELSTER — email or paper have no legal effect
- Order and activate a replacement TSE at least 14 days before expiry
Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if I missed the reporting deadline?
Warning: your register was in use before 1 July 2025 — the catch-up reporting deadline already ended on 31 July 2025. If you haven't reported yet, do so immediately via Mein ELSTER (fines of up to €25,000 possible).
Do I need a TSE at all?
You don't use an electronic cash register (open cash box). No TSE or reporting obligation applies under §146a AO — but you must still follow GoBD requirements for proper bookkeeping.
